Veg Momos

“Momos” One of the popular Tibetan dish which is now a popular street food in North India.


I have had one of the best momos or call them dumpling in streets of Delhi NCR. It’s a very popular street food in North India. It is served with a spicy sauce which is my favorite. You will get varieties of momos in North India (Veg momos, Paneer momos, Veg grilled momos, Chicken momos, Deep fried momos etc)


You need practice to make authentic momos, however I tried my hands on it and did a decent job. Though the shaping of momos is a tough job but BLESSED I am to do a NOT-Bad job at shaping them 😛



For Sauce

  • 2 Tomato
  • 2-3 Dry red chilies (soaked in water for 20mins)
  • 5-6 Garlic cloves (roasted)
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tsp sugar
  • Salt

For momos sheet

  • 1 Cup all purpose flour
  • 1 Tsp oil
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • Cold water

For Stuffing

  • 1/2 Cup finely chopped cabbage
  • 1/2 Cup grated carrot
  • 1/2 Cup grated paneer
  • 2 Chopped green chilies
  • 1/4 Tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 Tsp soy sauce
  • Salt


For Sauce


Step 1- Boil tomatoes and red dry chilies on high flame for 6-7mins. Remove in a bowl and peel the tomatoes

Step 2- Blend the peeled tomato along with red chilies, roasted garlic, sugar,soy sauce, and salt to a smooth paste. You can add water to adjust the consistency of sauce according to your preference


For Momos Sheet

Step 1- Add salt and oil to all purpose flour in a mixing bowl


Step 2- Make a smooth dough using cold water


For Stuffing

Step 1- Heat oil in a pan on medium flame


Step 2- Add chopped green chilies, cabbage, carrot and paneer


Step 3- Add ginger-garlic paste and fry for 8-10mis


Step 4- Add soy sauce and salt and turn off the flame after 2mins


Shaping the momos

Step 1- Make small equal size balls from the dough


Step 2- Roll each dough ball like poori and place 1 Tbsp filling in centre


Step 3- Lift one side of the edge and start pleating and join in the centre


Step 4- Do this for all the rolls


Step 5- For steaming the momos you can use steamer/ pressure cooker/ or kadhai with a lid. Here I have used kadhai with lid. For pressure cooker, boil 2 glass of water on high flame put the momos in a greased pan and close the lid and remove whistle, cook on medium flame for 15mins.


For momos in kadhai, boil 2 galss of water on high flame, place the momos in a pan and close the lid. Cook for 15mins on medium flame


Turn off the flame and serve hot momos with sauce


You can also boil the momos, Boil 2 glass of water on medium flame. Place the momos in boiling water and take out after 8-10mins. Check before taking out the whether the momos are cooked or not. Do not over cook it.

For deep fried momos, Heat oil in a deep frying pan, cook momos on medium flame until golden

Serve hot with Spicy sauce 🙂
