Oven Baked Tandoori Chicken

A dish which is famous worldwide and served with different kind of dips and sauces “Tandoori Chicken”. Though the traditional way of making Tandoori Chicken is to let it cook in tandoor (clay pot) but here I am sharing my oven baked Tandoori Chicken recipe. This homemade oven baked Tandoori Chicken is no less than restaurant ones.
Serve this spicy, juicy Tandoori Chicken with Mint-Coriander chutney and onion slices and enjoy.
Though you can always bought tandoori masala from store but I would suggest to make it at home and store in an air tight container. Use whenever required.

Serves 2

  • 4 Chicken drumsticks
  • 1 Tbsp oil
  • 1 Tsp red chilli

For Marination 

  • 1/3 Cup thick yogurt
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt as required

For Tandoori Masala

  • 1 Tsp coriander powder
  • 1 Tsp black pepper powder
  • 1/2 Tsp red chili powder
  • 1 Tsp dried fenugreek leaves (powder them)
  • 1 Tsp garam masala

Mix all the tandoori masala ingredients in a small bowl
Step 1- In a large bowl take thick yogurt. If using homemade yogurt then remove extra water, if any. Add tandoori masala, ginger-garlic paste,salt and lemon juice. Mix well
If you are using store bought tandoori masala then add 2tbsp tandoori masala to the yougurt

Step 2- Add red chili powder, adjust according to you preference. Slightly cut the ckicken drumsticks so that the drumsticks are well marinated. And now add the chicken drumsticks

Step 3- Marinade the chicken drumsticks and refrigerate it for 6-7hours or overnight. If you are using the store bought masala then refrigerate it for 3-4hours

Step 4- Preheat oven at 460-465ºF/ 240ºC for at least 15minutes before. Prepare the baking tray with the foil and place chicken drumsticks on it
 Now to the 1tbsp of oil add 1tsp of red chili powder and stir well and brush this on the chicken drumsticks.
Cook for 20mins first and then flip the drumsticks and again apply some chili-oil mixture and again cook for 10-15mins. Keep on checking and cook for another few minutes if required.
Remove from oven and serve with Mint-Coriander Chutney and Onion and Lemon slices.
