If you are an Indian, there are 90% chances that you love Peanut Chikki. Am I right? So this one is almost everyone’s winter favorite and I am sure when I say everyone, it means everyone. 😀 Even if not favorite, still people love eating it. Peanut Chikki is a traditional Indian sweet snack which is made during winters with just two ingredients peanuts and jaggery.
All you need is some roasted peanuts, jaggery, one small spoonful of ghee and TaDa. That’s All! You can use powdered or block jaggery whichever is available at your nearby store. Making of peanut chikki consists of three parts first, roasting the peanuts and removing its skin. Second, cooking jaggery to the perfection. Third, mixing them together and then cutting into the desired shape.
A few tips:
For Peanuts, Roast peanuts on medium-low to medium flame until crisp. Let it cool down completely then remove the skin of the peanuts.
For Cooking Jaggery, Although the recipe is very simple and fun yet it requires your little attention while cooking the jaggery. If the jaggery is not cooked to the right stage, either the chikki will become too soft or too hard to eat. If you want a crispy chikki do the water test to check the jaggery syrup. While you drop the jaggery syrup it should directly sink to the bottom and should not dissolve. If you are able to roll that drop of the jaggery into a ball, then it’s done.
This peanut chikki looks very much like Peanut Brittle we get here is the USA. Peanut brittle is prepared with sugar syrup whereas, Peanut Chikki is prepared using jaggery.
Growing up, I have seen mommy preparing peanut chikki, sesame seeds chikki, puffed rice-jaggery laddoo, flattened rice-jaggery laddoo during winters and especially during Makar Sankranti festival. It was so much fun seeing mom preparing all these snacks with so much love. ❤ Although I love these but peanut chikki and sesame seeds chikki are my favorite. I and my brother would fight for the last piece of chikki. 😀 This used to be my favorite school snack.
The husband is a big-time peanut lover. Like literally! Anything that has peanuts, he will eat it. If you offer something that has peanuts in it, he will pick peanuts first. He likes to wat roasted peanuts so I roasted 2 lbs peanuts last week and stored in a jar. Obviously, he saw that and asked me to prepare his favorite peanut chikki. If you are a peanut lover, you will definitely like this snack.
