If you’re one of them who likes to eat dal everyday (apart from the days when you get to eat chicken curry or fish curry) in lunch, just like me, then just give me a high-five! 😀 To me a comfort meal/lunch sounds like- steamed rice, one side dish, and a warm bowl of dal.
Just a tadka of ghee with cumins seeds is all I need in my dal. However, today I wanted something different than my regular dal.
Dal Dhokli is an amazing way to turn your boring dal into delicious side dish. A very famous and comfort meal of Gujarat and Rajasthan. The best part about this dish is, it’s a hassle free recipe. We all know what dal is? Cooked lentils. And, Dhokli refers to the spiced wheat dumplings.
This is one of the best dal recipes that you just can’t miss eating. The ingredients are very basic and the process is also very easy and simple. A one pot delicious dish that is made by cooking dal and them simmering spiced wheat dumplings in the dal. Adding a tadka for the final step enhances the flavor of the dal.
Traditionally, Leftover dal were use to prepare Dal Dhokli. Dhoklis were prepared and simmered in the leftover dal. This is the best way to avoid the wastage and what could be a better makeover to the simple dal other than this? 😀
Serve this Dal Dhokli with rice or roti and enjoy the complete comfort meal. Or, you can also serve it as an Indian soup. Sounds great, haan…?
The consistency of the dal in this Dal Dhokli should be a little on the flowing side, however, I prefer my dal to a on a thick side. Enjoy yours as you prefer.
